CAN YOU REALLY AFFORD CHEAP TOOLING?

Wadkin offers exceptional quality for the most affordable price!

Your moulder is a large investment; it makes perfect sense to equip this valuable machine with only the highest quality tooling. But at what costs?
Wadkin Cutterheads are simply the best value for your tooling dollar! We manufacture our corrugated moulder heads to meet or surpass the highest industry standards. We only use the highest quality materials to offer you a product designed for superior performance for life.
CUTTERHEAD BALANCE: Back to top
"The life and performance of your moulder hangs in the balance."
ISO quality standards refer to G16 as being the industry standard for rotating tools. Wadkin moulder heads are dynamically balanced to G2.5, which is a substantially tighter tolerance.
Example: A tool that is only 1 gram out of balance on a moulder spindle at 6,000 rpms is equal to swinging a 22 pound weight over your head! Can you afford excessive bearing and machine wear from out-of-balance tooling?
BENEFITS:
  • Less Vibration
  • Better finished products
  • Longer Cutterhead Life
  • Extends Bearing Life
BORE CONCENTRICITY: Back to top
"All the boring details. . ."
For near perfect accuracy, Wadkin maintains bore concentricity of 0.000787 (20 microns) on all moulder heads. (A micron is 1/1000 of a millimeter.)
BENEFITS:
  • Quality Surface finish
  • Dimensional Accuracy

BORE TOLERANCE: Back to top
"The hole true and nothing but. . .."
The ISO specified bore tolerance is 0 to 25 microns. Too tight a tolerance will make the cutterhead difficult to fit on the shaft. Too loose a tolerance results in a sloopy fit. Wadkin avoids these problems by tighter controlling of the bore tolerance to +5 to +20 microns.
END SQUARENESS: Back to top
"Head and shoulders above the rest"
The end on any moulder face must be square to the bore to avoid major machine problems or damage. The end squareness tolerance on Wadkin moulder heads is 0.00039 inches (10 microns). The end-to-end parallelism is 0.000197 inches (5 microns).
BENEFITS:
  • Better tool balance
  • Avoids vibration
  • Lessens potential spindle damage
  • Faster set up
  • Increased product accuracys
PARALLEL KNIFE SLOT SERRATIONS: Back to top
"Broaching the subject of corrugations"
Wadkin achieves near-perfect parallelism and repeatability on all Hydro Bore Cutterheads by "broaching" our head corrugations. The broaching process actually shapes the entire tool surface rather than using standard metal cutting tools to cut the corrugations. FOUR times more precise than “cut” serrations.
BENEFITS:
  • Safer knife support
  • Improved finish
  • Higher concentricity
  • More accurate grinding and jointing of knives in the head
